Many people want to set up the forum so members would progress from one level to the next (with more privileges or access to more sections of the forum) according to their posts count,

Here's how to do it.

The group “Members”..... it’s the default that after validation everyone becomes a member you can not place any group before it, but you can edit it to give it a different name (like "Newbie" for example):

First of all:
Create a new permission mask for the “Newbie” by going to the: Admin CP -> Forum Control -> Permission masks -> Create a new permission mask write in the name and chose do not inherit and click on Create.
Click on Edit and set what you want them to see and where are they allowed to reply etc....by ticking the appropriate boxes by the forum names you can hide some forums or make them just “read only” so they can read but not reply..... whatever you want.

The next step is to:
Create a new user group which will be used by the members and use the “Members” permission mask by going to: Admin CP -> Users & Groups -> Mange User Groups -> base new group on Members click on Set up New Group -> in Group Title write “Members”(you can add a dot after the name just so you don’t get it mixed up with the “original Members” group.) and assign them the “Members” permission mask..... edit the settings if you need to and click on Add Group

The last step is to:
Rename the “original Members” group…..by going to: Admin CP -> Users & Groups -> Mange User Groups -> click Edit Group rename it to “Newbie” and assign it the “Newbie” user mask. -> adjust the settings to what you need and at the end there is a question: Promote members of this group to: chose Members …when they reach “20” (or any number of your choice) posts-> click on Complete Edit…..and you’re done

You can create several other groups after this where people can progress if they reach the required posts count, it is up to you how many you have, but make sure in each group you answer the  Promote members of this group to: question and set the required post count.
